Building social value skills for competitive advantage
Positioned client to partner with larger primes
Enhanced bids aligned to commissioner expectations
Our client, the UK's leading key holding and alarm response specialist, wanted to strengthen its existing Social Value offer and improve competitiveness in commissioner-led markets. The aim was clear: sharped bid responses and open subcontracting opportunities with larger prime providers. Led by our Social Value expert, Sarah Mohan, our consultation provided clarity, structure and practical tools to embed social value confidently.
For small/medium enterprises (SMEs) like our client, entering markets dominated by large prime providers poses multiple challenges. Commissioners expect demonstrable Social Value commitments across the government’s Social Value Model, covering areas such as fair work, sustainability, and supply chain resilience. Our client needed support to review their existing initiatives, benchmark against larger competitors, identify any gaps. This required a practical plan that balanced ambition with what was deliverable at SME scale.
We delivered a focused consultation bringing together senior leadership, business development and marketing teams. Facilitated by our Social Value SME, the interactive workshop was used as an opportunity to review Social Value Model requirements, analyse prime provider approaches, and map existing initiative against requirements. We identified strengths already in place, suggested new ideas, and simplified the complexities of measurement and reporting. The session concluded with a practical Social Value plan, including commitments and initiatives tailored to each outcome.
